He made a lightning start in Austin

Rory Mcllroy started the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Championship strong as he secured a 3&1 victory over American Scott Stallings on Wednesday.

Mcllroy was leading by three points after six holes and Stallings, who rallied with birdies on the ninth, 13th and 16th, conceded the game after the World no.3 made his sixth birdie of the day on the 17th.

Mcllroy will play Denny McCarthy on Thursday and Keegan Bradley on Friday as he will be looking to emerge out of his group and reach the knockout phase.

Each of the pool winners will advance to Saturday’s round of 16, with the quarter-finals held later the same day before the semi-finals and final take place on Sunday.
