The Russian didn't break a sweat and played an almost perfect game
Daniil Medvedev progressed to Monte Carlo last 16 after easily defeating Italian Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.
This was Medvedev first clay-court win of the year as he is well-known of having difficulties in the clay.
“I always struggle on clay, every match is a struggle,” he said.
“There’s no rhythm on clay, every bounce is a bad bounce and even when it’s good you’re expecting a bad bounce.”
Medvedev will play the world No. 16 Zverev in the next round, who beat Spain’s Roberto Bautista 6-4, 6-4 in only his second match on clay after suffering a serious knee injury picked during his 1/2 final match against Nadal at the French Open last year.
