Inter Miami leader Lionel Messi has revealed that he regrets not learning English when he was a kid. The Argentinian superstar spent most of his career in Spain with Barcelona, but now he is playing in the USA in MLS.
Leo claims the language barrier has left him feeling “half ignorant” at times when he has the chance to speak with other incredible people.
However, the forward shares that while he doesn’t speak the language out of embarrassment, he understands everything.
“One of my biggest regrets is that I didn’t learn English when I was young,” shared Messi. “I had the chance at least to study English, and I didn’t. I had the chance to be in the same room with incredible people, and with my limited English, I felt half ignorant.
“I always thought: ‘I must be an idiot to waste my time like that.’ But when you are a kid, you don’t realize it. That’s why now I tell my children how important education is and to be prepared for the future.”
Messi can be on the pitch again when Inter Miami face Orlando City on March 1st.
