The franchise has interviewed the NY Yankees bench coach Carlos Mendoza. He has a history with the Mets, having played 15 matches for them in 1997.
The Mets fired Buck Showalter after 2 years at the end of the 2023 season.
Carlos (43) has been bench coach under Aaron Boone for the last 4 campaigns after becoming part of the franchise in 2009.
The Venezuelan has played as an outfielder in the MLB as he has competed in 28 matches in the league over 2 years with New York and Colorado Rockies.
However, Mendoza was also interviewed for the managerial vacancy in Cleveland Guardians.
Craig Counsell is still the favorite to become the new Mets head coach, but if he prefers to remain in the Milwaukee Brewers or to join Guardians or Houston Astros, the Mets now have a 2nd option.
