After returning to defend during a counterattack from Jamaica, the West Ham player suddenly hit the ground in pain, clutching his left hamstring.
Edson had to be helped off the pitch, visibly in a lot of pain, as things didn’t look very optimistic about his chances to play again at the tournament after being on the pitch less than 30 minutes.
“With our captain, we’re going to wait several days to give him an examination and know well what his injury is,” Mexico head coach Jaime “Jimmy” Lozano shared with the media after the win. “Without a doubt, as it is with any other footballer, the intention is not to take any chances. Álvarez felt something in his leg.”
Gerardo Arteaga scored the winning goal for Mexico in the 69th minute from the edge of the penalty area.
