The Miami Grand Prix made headlines beyond the racetrack as it drew Formula One’s largest live U.S. television audience to date. According to broadcaster ESPN, the race captured the attention of an average of 3.1 million viewers on ABC, with a peak of 3.6 million tuning in to watch the action unfold.
The sixth round of the season delivered an emotional first Formula One victory for McLaren’s Lando Norris, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen securing second place and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finishing third. Verstappen’s dominant performance in previous races, including six consecutive pole positions, had raised concerns that his supremacy was dampening viewer interest, particularly following the popularity boost brought about by the Netflix docu-series ‘Drive to Survive.’
The record-breaking viewership marks a significant milestone for Formula One in the United States, surpassing the previous record of 2.6 million viewers set during the inaugural Miami Grand Prix in 2022.
