Cleveland trailed by 18 in the 1st half and was close to being eliminated in the 1st round for the 2nd consecutive season.
However, Donovan, who notched 50 in a Game 6 defeat in Florida and has been battling a left knee problem for months, put Cavaliers on his back. Mitchell carried his team against the Magic, whose postseason inexperience showed in the 2nd half.
Evan Mobley had 16 boards and Darius Garland scored a critical 3-pointer in the 4th quarter for Cavaliers, which triumphed in its 1st postseason matchup without LeBron James since 1993.
Cleveland will not start the 2nd round away from home vs. the top-seeded and favorite Boston Celtics in Game 1 on Tuesday.
