The league is expected to request interviews with all involved, including the Dodgers superstar and the interpreter, but Mizuhara can refuse to talk with MLB because he is no longer working as part of the organization.
Shohei also can refuse to speak with the league as a member of the MLB Players Association.
“MLB has been collecting information since we learned about the allegations featuring Shohei Ohtani and Ippei Mizuhari from the news media,” the league announced today. “Earlier on Friday, our Department of Investigations (DOI) started their formal process of investigating the situation.”
The league probe came 2 days after Ohtani’s interpreter was dismissed as he has collected at least 4.5 million dollars from the baseballer’s account to gamble.
Withing 48 hours, Shohei’s handlers change the version from the player paid his interpreter’s debt to his lawyers claiming Ohtani had been victim to a “massive theft.”
