Novak Djokovic has crashed out of the Monte Carlo Masters after succumbing to a surprising 6-4, 5-7, 4-6 loss to the 16th Lorenzo Musseti in the last 16.
The Serb looked in control after clinching the first set, but afterwards collapsed to the high pressure he had been put to by his Italian opponent. Musseti will face Jannik Sinner in the 1/4 finals, who came from behind in his last 16 match against Hubert Hurkacz.
Defending champions Stefanos Tsitsipas cruise past the unseeded Chilean Nicolas Jarry 6-3, 6-4.
The other surprise came from the 4th seed Casper Ruud, who was stunned by world No.100 Struff 6-1, 7-6 (8-6), which ended the Norwegian run of nine consecutive wins on clay, dating back from July 2022.
Holger Rune also progressed to the 1/4 finals without playing as Italian Mateo Berrettini withdrew from the tournament due to abdominal injury.
