The city administration of the Italian city of Monza has proposed that the stadium of the local football club be named after former football figure and Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who died on Monday, reports “Sky Sport Italia”.
Berlusconi died at the age of 87. “His name will forever be associated with our city, because under his leadership, Monza achieved a historic ranking for the elite division of the Italian football championship and kept its place in it,” reported the city council.
Berlusconi was the owner of Milan from 1986 to 2016, during which time the Rossoneri won eight titles and the Champions League five times. In September 2018, he became the owner of Monza, which at the time was playing in the third division. The club entered Serie A in 2022 and finished in 11th place in the standings last season.
