Ja Morant was the star of the show as he made his first outing in the starting lineup after his infamous eight-game suspension. The 23-year old, cheered by both set of supporters, didn’t disappoint and bagged home an impressive 27 points.
Desmond Bane was the second highest scorer in the Memphis team as he notched 25 points.
The Grizzlies were leading throughout the majority of the game but a late surge from Atlanta saw them almost turn things around. In the closing stages they were trailing 122-119 and after a free throw by Tyus Jones, Atlanta’s coach called for timeout with 11.6 remaining.
When the game resumed the Hawks had their chances with Trae Young, who was excellent all night with 28 points, but he missed a short jumper before Bogdan Bogdanovic 3-poInter from the corner was also unsuccessful.
The result means Memphis stay in second place in the Western Conference, despite poor 15-22 record away from home. They await the visit of Orlando on Tuesday, while the Hawks host Cleveland also on Tuesday.
