Germany’s national team coach, Julian Nagelsmann, is among the leading candidates for the vacant coaching position at Bayern Munich this summer, according to Kicker magazine.
The publication reports that Bayern’s executives are actively discussing the possibility of Nagelsmann’s return, as he was sacked 12 months ago by the club’s previous leadership after less than two seasons in charge.
Opinions, however, are divided on whether Julian Nagelsmann is the right person to succeed Thomas Tuchel, who replaced him in March 2023. Tuchel has one more year left on his current contract with Bayern Munich but will leave the club at the end of the season.
Nagelsmann’s contract with the German national team expires later this year after the European Football Championship, and he has already stated that he could consider both options – renewing it or returning to club football.
The preferred option for succeeding Tuchel was thought to be Bayer Leverkusen coach Shabi Alonso, but he announced that he would stay in his current position.
Bayern Munich board member Max Eberl said on Saturday that there have been no direct talks with Alonso and confirmed that the Bavarians are now moving in a different direction.
When asked about Nagelsmann, Eberl replied, “I know that the whole public is interested, and everyone wants to know what we think.”
