The NBA has announced that starting this year, the draft will span in two days.
Traditionally, the draft ceremony consists of two rounds, with each of the 30 teams in the league originally having one pick in each of the two rounds. However, teams may have more or fewer picks depending on deals made before or during the draft.
This year, the first round of the draft will take place on June 26 at the Barclays Center in New York on a Wednesday. The second round will follow a day later, again in New York, but at the ESPN headquarters.
Last year, when the San Antonio Spurs selected Victor Wembanyama with the first overall pick, the draft lasted nearly five hours and concluded around 1 AM, prompting the NBA to introduce the format change.
In the first round, individual picks will still have a five-minute interval between them, while in the second round, teams will now have more time for consideration. The previous two-minute window has been extended to four minutes starting from this year.
