The 2 franchises had been talking about a 6th-round draft selection as compensation. The exchange can’t become official until the NFL’s new season starts Wednesday and Mac passes a physical.
Pats own the number 3 selection in the draft, where experts believe that they will pick 1 of the top-rated QBs as favorites right now, which are LSU’s Jayden Daniels and North Carolina’s Drake Maye.
Mac, who grew up in Jacksonville, will play for his hometown as he will be Trevor Lawrence’s reserve – the 1st selection in the 2021 draft. Jones was picked 15th overall at the same draft.
Mac will have a competition with C.J. Beathard to determine who Trevor’s primary reserve will be. C.J. is in the final season of a 2-year, 4.5 million dollar deal he inked before the start of the past campaign.
Beathard started just 1 match in his 3 campaigns with the Jags, completing 17 of 24 passes for 178 yards to lead the team to a 26-0 win against the Carolina Panthers in Week 17 in the past campaign.
