New Zealand didn’t go to the pitch for the 2nd half of their friendly versus Qatar in Austria after defender Michael Boxall suffered racial abuse by the opposition.
However, that wasn’t the only match abandoned in Austria that day amid racism claims. Ireland’s U21 national team also didn’t finish their match versus the Kuwait Olympic team after a footballer from Kuwait had racially abused unused Irish player on the bench.
“A Qatari footballer used a racial language towards All Whites defender Boxall after a dispute between them,” New Zealand Football shared with the media. “A few of our footballers heard the racial abuse, including Michael.”
