In a recent development, the NFL Management Council has communicated to clubs that there will be no projection for the 2024 salary cap at the upcoming Winter League Meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday. According to sources, the finalized cap is not expected to be determined until after New Year’s Day.
Despite this uncertainty, insiders familiar with the situation assert that the combination of surging revenue and the waning impacts of the 2020 pandemic positions the league for substantial cap growth in the coming years. It is speculated that the 2024 salary cap could exceed $240 million, with additional revenue contributing to future caps.
Insiders suggest that revenue projections have the potential to support a 2024 salary cap well beyond the $240 million range, marking another significant increase from the record $224.8 million per club set this year, which itself was an ascent from $208.2 million in 2022.
A memo from the NFL Management Council on Thursday hinted at the ongoing negotiations between the Management Council and NFLPA, stating, “The Management Council and NFLPA are in the process of addressing open matters that will impact the 2024 Salary Cap and therefore will not be able to project a range for the 2024 Salary Cap until those issues are resolved. The 2024 Salary Cap will be announced by memorandum, as has been done over the past two years, as soon as we are able to reach agreement but we do not anticipate that occurring until after the New Year.”
