Lando Norris claimed a dramatic victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix, narrowly holding off McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri in a tense, late-race showdown that could have gone either way. The British driver crossed the line just ahead of his Australian teammate after a nail-biting battle that peaked in the penultimate lap.
The race reached a crescendo on lap 69 of 70, when Piastri, armed with fresher tyres, launched a bold move down the pit straight and dived up the inside of Norris into Turn 1. Locked in a fight for the win—and championship momentum—Piastri locked a tyre under braking and came perilously close to contact, but Norris held his nerve and his line to keep the lead.
The thrilling finale was set up by McLaren’s strategic gamble to split the race plans for their two drivers. Norris, who had slipped to fifth on the opening lap, committed to a one-stop strategy, while Piastri who running second early on, was placed on a two-stopper. As the laps counted down, Piastri steadily erased a 10-second deficit, drawing within striking distance with just a handful of laps remaining.

Despite the pressure, Norris made no mistakes, defending in the closing moments to take his second win of the season and cut the gap to his teammate in the drivers’ standings to just nine points as Formula 1 before the summer break.
