The team last achieved the feat at the 2012 Brazilian GP, so long ago it was Lewis Hamilton’s final race with McLaren.
The champ, Max Verstappen, will start from the 3rd position after a session that had 2 red flags, 1 triggered by Max’s teammate Sergio Perez.
Lando shared after securing the pole position: “I’m beyond happy, not an easy qualifying, different conditions, always being the leader, it’s the best part of the session. I’m also happy for McLaren; a 1-2 is even better to achieve, so huge congratulations to them.”
Sergio, whose time with the Red Bull seems to come to an end soon, crashed during Q1 and will start again far behind the leaders.
