Novak Djokovic shared his thoughts after his surprising defeat to Alex de Minaur with a score of 6-4, 6-4 at the United Cup, expressing that he expects to be in good shape for the start of the Australian Open. The world number 1 is experiencing pain in his right thigh, which became apparent during the match against Jiri Lehecka.
“I wasn’t at my best. It was one of those days where you don’t feel very well on the court, and your opponent is playing very well. I have enough time to get in shape for the Australian Open, and that’s the most important thing right now,” said Djokovic.
“I think I’ll be fine, but it had an impact on my forehand and serve. I don’t want to spend too much time talking about it. I knew I wouldn’t be at 100% in the first week of the season. I didn’t expect it, I didn’t want it; it’s part of the preparation for the Australian Open. I want to perform at the highest level there. It’s never good when you lose a match, but I won’t pay too much attention to it.”
“I’ve been feeling discomfort for two days. It got worse during yesterday’s and especially today’s match, but I don’t want to dwell too much on it and take away from Alex’s victory. Now I will try to recover for the Australian Open. I think I’ll be fine by then,” added the Serbian.
