Leon Edwards will defend his welterweight belt against Colby Covington as the two will headline the UFC 296 event on December 11th. This was announced on the official UFC website earlier today.
Edwards will defend his title for the second time. His first fight as champion was a rematch against Kamaru Usman in March. The Brit recorded a second consecutive victory over Usman. The win came after five rounds played and a judge’s decision in his favor. In the first meeting between the two, the fighter from Birmingham knocked out Kamaru in the last minute of the last fifth round. The new champion at 77 kg has not lost in the last eight years and is on a streak of 12 consecutive successes. Colby Covington’s last fight was in March 2022. Then the American prevailed over his former teammate Jorge Masvidal. This win came after two straight losses to Kamaru Usman.
UFC 296 will take place on December 11th at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas. The other announced fight from the final UFC PPV card of the year is Brandon Royval-Alexandre Pantoja. The men’s flyweight title will be at stake in this fight.
