The 28-year-old has played only one competitive game in 2023 – a loss to China’s Wu Yibing in Stuttgart in June.
“I want to make sure my body is going to have the time it needs to come back,” he wrote in social media post.
Kyrgios already pointed out a month ago that it will be unlikely for him to take part in the first Grand Slam of the year. The 28-year-old has suffered from wrist, knee and foot injuries, which have kept him out for all of the Grand Slams in 2023.
“This is a very disappointing time for me, but I won’t be able to compete at the 2024 Australian Open,” Kyrgios said.
“Obviously, heartbreaking. I’ve had so many amazing memories there, and I just want to really get back to playing at the top of my game and doing it right, and I need a little more time.”
