Oklahoma City Thunder GM Sam Presti claimed he “missed” on the midseason exchange that landed Gordon Hayward, describing it as a learning experience.
OKC had a phenomenal campaign, qualifying for the postseason as the number 1 seed in the West, but were eliminated from the Mavs in 6 matches in the 2nd round.
The general manager tried to strengthen the young team by bringing in Hayward several months ago. However, Gorden averaged just over 5 points in almost 17 minutes per match for the franchise in 26 regular-campaign matches and did not score in the playoffs.
“I took the blame for this deal, “ Sam shared with the media at his end-of-campaign conference. Presti added that he is learning and that in the future, this experience will only make him a better general manager for Oklahoma.
OKC acquired Hayward from the Hornets for guards Tre Mann, Vasilije Micic, and Davis Bertans, and the Thunder also sent this year’s 2nd-round selection and next year’s 2nd-round pick in the trade.
"I missed on that. That's on me, but I'm learning.”
– Sam Presti discussing how while the Gordon Hayward trade was multidimensional (freed up roster spots & Cap), he feels that he misread it & talked about how it’s a learning experience.
