Oscar Piastri produced a sensational lap at Spa-Francorchamps to claim pole position for Saturday’s Sprint race ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, outpacing Max Verstappen by nearly half a second in a dramatic one-lap shootout.
With only one set of soft tyres permitted in SQ3, all ten remaining drivers waited until the closing minutes to take to the track for their final flying laps. Piastri delivered a masterclass under pressure, stopping the clock at 1:40.510 to lead the field.

Verstappen, who had looked strong through the earlier sessions, could only manage 1:40.987 — a time that was also just enough to edge out McLaren’s Lando Norris, who settled for third with a 1:41.128.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was the best of the rest, albeit almost eight-tenths behind Piastri’s benchmark. He was followed by a standout performance from Haas driver Esteban Ocon, while his team mate Oliver Bearman secured seventh, split by the Williams of Carlos Sainz.

Alpine’s Pierre Gasly continued his strong form from SQ2 to finish eighth, while Isack Hadjar (Racing Bulls) and Gabriel Bortoleto (Kick Sauber) rounded out the top ten in a tightly contested session.
