Jonathan will replace Jeff Hafley, who became the Dolphins’ manager in the past week after 2 campaigns running Green Bay’s defense.
With the Packers, Gannon will take over a defense that features reigning 1st-team All-Pro DE Micah Parsons and 2nd-team All-Pro safety Xavier McKinney. Gannon will become the 4th DC in coach Matt LaFleur’s 8 years with the team.
Hafley’s successful 2-year stint followed 2 two coordinators who were let go – Pettine and Barry.
Jonathan was dismissed by Arizona after a 3-14 record in the current campaign and went 15-36 in 3 campaigns as the Cardinals’ boss. The Packers’ head coach likes the fact that his new defensive coordinator has experience in the NFL as a manager.
LaFleur inked a deal extension with Green Bay this month, while the GM Gutekunst and vice president/director of football operations Ball are expected to sign new contracts soon.
