The Carolina Panthers plan to appoint Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales as their new manager.
Dave Canales is a SPECTACULAR hire by the @Panthers specifically for Bryce Young. Canales helped relaunch the careers of Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield in back to back years by building the offense around their strengths in his west coast scheme. “It will happen,” a source shared with an ESPN reporter.
Carolina is hoping that Dave (42) can achieve for Bryce Young what he did for QBs Russell Wilson, Geno Smith, and Baker Mayfield.
He had his 2nd interview with Carolina on Wednesday in Charlotte, where he met with Panthers owner David Tepper and new GM Dan Morgan.
The general manager spent 8 years with Canales on the Seattle Seahawks’ staff from 2010 to 2017 when Canales was the WRs manager. Dave was the passing game coordinator for Seattle in 2020 when Wilson set career highs with 40 TDs and almost 70% complete percentage. He also passed for 4,212 yards.
Dave was the offensive coordinator at the Buccaneers this past campaign when Mayfield had a career-high 4,044 yards and 28 TDs.
