The New Orleans Pelicans have dismissed boss Willie Green after a 2-10 start to the campaign, the organization revealed today.
Willie was doomed by an awful 0-6 start and problems with his best basketballers. Zion Williamson has been on the court just 5 matches due to a hamstring problem, as he has problems with that kind of injury for the 4th straight year.
New Orleans was the 1st team in league history to lose 3 of their 1st 6 matches by at least 30 points, after conceding at least 120 points in 5 consecutive matches to start the campaign for the 1st time in organization history.
The Pelicans lost their last 4 matches, including a 118-104 defeat against the Lakers at the end of the past week. New Orleans is a bottom-5 organization in both offensive and defensive rating in the current campaign.
Green was in his 5th campaign as New Orleans head coach, and Willie finished with a 150-190 record, including playoffs twice during his tenure.
Assistant James Borrego will be the head coach until the Pelicans find a new permanent boss.
The #Pelicans have relieved Willie Green of his duties as head coach, it was announced today by Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars.
Associate Head Coach James Borrego has been named interim head coach.
