Phil Foden has undergone a surgery to his appendicitis and will not take place in England’s clash against Ukraine on Sunday.
Reports say that Foden felt ill after training on Saturday and it had been clear a surgery was necessary.
It is unknown whether Foden would have started the game anyway, having been benched in the previous outing against Italy and coming on in the 69th minute, but still the news come as a major setback to Gareth Southgate’s plans. The options in front of the Three Lion’s manager are James Maddison and Jack Grealish.
Jordan Henderson is due to return and take his starting place ahead of Kalvin Philips, who played against Italy. Ben Chilwell and Kieran Trippier will take the left-back position after Shaw had been suspended last time around.
It is uncertain how much it will take for Foden to recover, but it could be up to four weeks, meaning he is in doubt for the upcoming Manchester City’s games.
