Philadelphia 76ers center Paul Reed will stay with the team for three more seasons.
The club’s directors decided to exercise the clause to match the deal that Reid signed with the Utah Jazz on Saturday. The contract he signed was for three years worth a total of $23 million.
Reed, 24, had the option to sign with Utah as a free agent. If the Sixers had not offered a contract with the same parameters as Utah’s at the deadline, the player would have continued his career in Salt Lake City.
The 76ers are matching Paul Reed’s three-year, $23M offer sheet with the Jazz, sources tell ESPN. Per sheet’s terms, Sixers must guarantee last two years of Reed’s deal if they win the opening round of playoffs this season.
