The National Basketball Association shared today that Paul George has been banned without salary for 25 matches for violating the league’s anti-drug policy.
Philly’s star revealed that after the news about his suspension made the headlines: “Over the last few seasons, I have talked about the importance of mental health, and during seeking help for such problems, I made the mistake of taking a banned substance. I take full responsibility for what happened, and I want to apologize to the 76ers, my teammates, and all the supporters of our team.”
“I will use the time while I’m out to make sure that I recover both physically and mentally so when I’m back, I will be able to help Philadelphia.”
Paul’s suspension will start with today’s match against the Pelicans, and he could return on March 25th in Philly for the game vs. the Bulls – there will be 10 regular campaign matches remaining for his team.
The 76ers will save over 5 million dollars in luxury tax payments as part of George’s suspension without pay, and that would help them to keep the roster.
