The Philadelphia team had to show nerves of steel to see off Atlas

Philadelphia Union and Atlas FC finished a breathtaking game 2-2, with Philadelphia progressing through the CCL semi-finals 3-2 on aggregate due to their 1-0 win lats week.

Atlas opened the scoring early on in the 11th minute through Julian Quinones strike. Philadelphia, however, were quick to react and in the 28th minute restored the even score with Julian Carranza first goal of the night after a video review.

It was mightily important away goal as it meant Atlas needed another two to progress. They did manage to pull one back right at the stroke of half-time with Julio Firch scoring a tap-in, moments after Philadelphia’s striker Mikael Uhre missed a sitter.

That set the stage for a mouth-watering second half, which saw the Atlas team put Union under severe pressure in search for a decisive third goal.

However it was the team from Philadelphia that prevailed after Carranza stroke again following a brilliant counter attack and that but the tie beyond Atlas.

Union will face LAFC, who comfortably secured a 1/2 final spot after 6-0 rout over Vancouver Whitecaps, in a repeat of last year’s epic MLS Cup final.
