Chelsea is more focused on winning trophies than signing new players, manager Mauricio Pochettino stated on Thursday. The Blues had a challenging start to the season, but gradual improvements in their gameplay have been evident. The team has won its last three league matches and has also reached the final of the League Cup after defeating Middlesbrough.
Despite being in the transfer window’s final week and currently standing in 9th place, which might suggest a search for new players, Pochettino has a different perspective. “We are more desperate for winning a trophy rather than acquiring new players. I am happy with this team. Winning a cup would solidify my belief in the team and boost the players’ confidence. However, we are aware that the past week has been intense with matches and changes. So, we need to be prepared if anything happens to the team,” said Pochettino ahead of the 4th round match in the FA Cup against Aston Villa.
Pochettino confirmed that striker Christopher Nkunku would not be available for the match against Villa on Friday as he is recovering from a hip injury. However, the manager declined to comment on whether they are actively seeking a new striker.
“Numerous rumors are circulating – who’s coming, who’s leaving. We are working diligently to address various issues in different areas of the team and our game. We will only comment if something actually happens,” added the Chelsea manager.
