Despite several rumors suggesting about an exchange ahead of the free agency, the NY Rangers are expected to hold on to captain Jacob Trouba this offseason.
Jacob and the New York GM Chris Drury have had at least 1 discussion in the past weeks as the franchise wants to stop the rumors. The NHL organization from the Big Apple would need to replace the captain if they were to exchange or buyout the defenceman, so a trade at the moment doesn’t make sense.
However, next summer, Trouba will most certainly leave as the team will face a cap crunch with Igor Shesterkin, Alexis Lafrenière, and K’Andre Miller all up for fresh contracts.
It was reported in June that the Rangers were working on an exchange that would send Jacob to the Red Wings, but such a move didn’t happen.
Trouba netted 3 goals and had 22 points in 69 matches in the past campaign, adding 1 goal and 6 assists in 16 postseason matches.
