The NY Rangers dismissed coach Peter Laviolette today in the aftermath of missing the postseason.
The firing of Peter was made by GM Chris Drury came after the franchise missed the postseason, the result of a lost campaign during which they massively underachieved preseason expectations after being at the East Conference finals in the past campaign.
Assistant Phil Housley was let go. Owner James Dolan and the general manager are expected to begin the search for a full-time boss swiftly, and roster changes will be made during the offseason.

“A few hours ago, I told Peter Laviolette and Phil Housley that they will be dismissed,” the Rangers general manager revealed. “I wish the duo all the best in the future, both personally and professionally.”
Laviolette spent just 2 campaigns in his 6th head-coaching role in the National Hockey League after getting appointed during the summer of 2023. Peter led in the previous 3 seasons the Capitals and was also at the helm of the Predators, Flyers, Hurricanes, and the Islanders as he triumphed with the Stanley Cup with Carolina in 2006.
