Mika Zibanejad had a goal and two assists, while Artemi Panarin scored twice as they led the Rangers to an emphatic victory.
Vladamir Tarasenko, Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba all scored, while goaltender Igor Shesterking made 33 saves.
“When you put in hard and honest work, miracles happen,″ Shesterkin saidafter the game.
”We played wonderfully today — scored many, many goals. Honestly, I hope the fans loved it. We’re playing for them.”
New York secured their 9th win out their last 11 games and 12th in the last 16 at Madison Square Garden.
No such praise could be said about the Penguins as they succumb to their third straight loss and are miles away from Rangers in the Metropolitan Division (12 points to be precise), though still in a wild-card position, which they will be looking to hold on to and reach the playoffs for the 17th time in succession.
Penguins host Ottawa Senators on Monday, while Rangers take on Nashville Predators on Sunday night.
