In a sweeping overhaul of the organization’s football leadership that started with the firing of manager Ron Rivera today, the franchise owner Josh Harris has appointed 2 prominent executives – ex-Warriors GM Bob Myers and ex-Vikings general manager Rick Spielman — to help his ownership group with the hiring of new head of football operations and manager, the team announced today.

Rivera, who became Washington’s boss in 2020, made the final decision in all football operations and appointed the franchise’s front office. But after securing the NFC East in his debut campaign with a negative record, the team has never been able to finish with a winning record.
Commanders ended the seasons at 4-13 and last in the NFC East and went 26-40-1 in his 4 years as the head coach of the team.
Washington owner thanked Ron for his time in the organization and called him a “good man” and “inspiring leader” but added that the reason for his dismissal was the bad results.
Ron Rivera is truly one of the finest, classiest people you will ever meet.
Thank you @RiverboatRonHC for all you did for our @Commanders. pic.twitter.com/cOS3jQ5Jo6
