The Eagles want to revamp the defensive side of the ball after a poor showing in the past season in which they allowed the 3rd-most points per match during the regular campaign (25.2), ranked 30th in red zone and 3rd-down defense, and yielded 35 passing TDs, 2nd most in the NFL.
Philadelphia is parting ways with DC Sean Desai and Matt Patricia, who replaced him as defensive play-caller late in the campaign.
Desai (40) was appointed by the Eagles in February to replace Jonathan Gannon, who became manager of the Arizona Cardinals. Boss Nick Sirianni demoted Desai in favor of Patricia after disappointing defeats against the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys at the beginning of the past month, costing the franchise the top seed at the end of the regular season.
Ron Rivera was once the linebacker coach of Jeremiah Trotter in Philadelphia.
