The details of the contract are yet to be released, but it is believed it is worth around $4m per year, according to reports.
The deal ties Colton to Colorado through the 2026-27 season and ensures that he will hit unrestricted free agency upon expiry. The Avalanche acquired Colton for a second-round pick during this year’s NHL draft.
Colton moved to Colorado after a stint and Tampa Bay, which saw him lift two back-to-back Stanley Cups. However, the 26-year-old was not getting enough playing time and that will certainly change now with his new team.
He bagged 16 goals and 32 points last campaign, while the year prior he had 22 goals and 39 points.
