Roy Hodgson has laid the blame on Virgil van Dijk for Jordan Ayew’s sending off, which proved to be the turning point in Liverpool’s dramatic 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.
Up until that point Palace were ahead, but the Reds immediately pounced first with Mohamed Salah and then with a stoppage time winner from Harvey Elliot to steal the 3 points.
“With the sending off – which I totally disagree with in every respect – I’m really disappointed that Virgil van Dijk should kick the ball against Jordan to get him the first yellow card,” said Hodgson.
“I thought the second yellow card was a tackle. Whether it was a foul or not, I didn’t think it was a yellow so to force us to play with ten men for the last 15 minutes plus added time was really harsh,”
“Liverpool do not need players of that quality and status trying to get an opposition player a yellow card,”
