The Russian was put to the test, but managed to held his nerve and succeed

Andrey Rublev defeated Alexander Bublik in a breathtaking, five-set encounter 7-5, 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-7 (5), 6-4, which saw the Russian just edge out at the end.

Rublev won the opening two sets and looked on his way to a comfortable victory at Center Court.

However, a stubborn display from Bublik saw him come back after two very hard-fought sets, which went down to the wire n tie-breaks.

In the deciding set it was all equal before the seventh seed pulled off one of the most spectacular shots in the penultimate point, which proved vital and secured him the game and therefore the match.

“It was the most lucky shot ever,” said Rublev. “It was luck, nothing else. I don’t think I can do it one more time.”

Rublev’s next opponent will probably be Novak Djokovic, who faces Hubert Hurkacz.
