Rune eliminates Ruud and is the Italian Open 1st finalist

Holger Rune, world number 7, defeated 2-1 sets 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 Casper Ruud, world number 4, and reached the Rome Masters final.

After no breaks in the 1^st set, the Norwegian player won the set after a tiebreak 7-2. However, the Danish player got back and won the 2^nd set after breaking his opponent’s serve twice and losing his serve only once.

Rune was the better player in the deciding set, and after converting 2 break points to close the set 6-2.

Interestingly, Holger won his 1^st clash against Ruud as they played 4 matches before that, all on clay, and Casper triumphed in all of them.

The Danish, who also eliminated world number 1 Novak Djokovic, will face in the final Medvedev or Tsitsipas.

Holger Rune on beating Ruud: “I played some of my best tennis in a period of the matches. 1st against Novak, then Casper. Such difficult players to play, I had to find my best tennis. I actually didn’t find it today, only at the end.”
