Jon Rahm has stated that the Ryder Cup should be a competition between the best of Europe and USA, regardless of current LIV Golf status.
Rahm comments come after the news broke out fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia will not be taking place in the upcoming event.
“It’s sad politics have got in the way of such a beautiful event,” said Rahm.
Garcia is the record-breaking points scorer in Europe and the last time he was paired with Rahm in the Ryder Cup was in 2021, where he went undefeated in three matches.
“Again, it’s the best Europeans against the best Americans, period,” added Rahm. “And whatever is going on, who is playing LIV and who is not playing LIV to me shouldn’t matter.
“It’s whoever is best suited to represent the European side. I have a hard time to believe that the best player Europe has ever had, the most successful player Europe has had on the Ryder Cup, isn’t fit to be on the team.”
