The firing was announced by the franchise after Buffalo finished their campaign yesterday with a 4-2 triumph against the Bolts. The Sabres ended with a 39-27-6 record and had been eliminated from postseason contention a few days ago.
Don completed his 3rd full campaign with the Sabres after taking over on an interim level in the middle of the pandemic-shortened campaign after Ralph Krueger was dismissed. And the firing comes with Granato still having 2 campaigns left on his deal, which included an extension that kicked in to begin next campaign.
The Sabres stumbled through a campaign in which the organization won 3 consecutive matches just 2 times and were unable to return in matches after slow starts.
Buffalo also dismissed assistant manager Jason Christie and video coordinator Matt Smith.
