Matt Chapman, labeled as 1 of the best defensive infielders in baseball, agreed to a 3-year, 54 million-dollar deal with the San Francisco Giants.

The contract also features opt-outs after the 1st and the 2nd season of the agreement.
Chapman’s contract is almost identical to Cody Bellinger’s, who re-inked with the Chicago Cubs a few days ago, with his highest payments at the deal’s outset. Like Cody, Matt also has the built-in opportunity to test the market again if he performs better in the next campaign than in the past season.
Chapman, who will be 31 years old next month, won his 4th Gold Glove Award in the past season with the Toronto Blue Jays. Since the beginning of the 2018 campaign, Matt ranks 1st among all baseballers at that position in defensive runs saved and is also 3rd in outs above average.
The signing of Chapman must complement what is expected to be an elite pitching staff – featuring sinkerballer Logan Webb.
