After a cautious search involving both internal and external people, the San Francisco 49ers have their new DC. And that’s not the only crucial addition to the franchise’s coaching staff.
The 49ers are promoting Nick Sorensen, the organization’s defensive pass game specialist and nickel CBs manager, to the DC role that was vacant after the firing of Steve Wilks in the past month. San Francisco is also expected to appoint ex-Chargers manager Brandon Staley as assistant HC.

At the league scouting combine in Indianapolis, the team’s GM John Lynch shared the organization was in “no rush” to appoint a coordinator but reiterated what boss Kyle Shanahan admitted when he shared the dismissal of Wilks as the 49ers head coach claimed that the franchise didn’t want to stray far from what it has done defensively in the last 7 seasons.
“We believe in us and what we will achieve, and we are not going to change drastically in the future,” Niners general manager shared. “Our team trusts what we have achieved so far.”
