The 2026/27 UEFA Champions League final will be played at Atletico Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium after the venue won the bid to host European football’s biggest event.
The legendary San Siro stadium had been in contention until the final stages but ultimately lost out. UEFA cited the venue’s declining condition and failure to meet modern European standards as a key factor in the decision.
The development comes at a pivotal moment for AC Milan and Inter, who are pursuing plans to purchase San Siro and the surrounding land in hopes of building a new, state-of-the-art arena. While local authorities have slowed progress, the ruling could be the decisive moment to accelerate the process.
In contrast, Atletico’s Metropolitano, opened in 2017 with over 68 000 seats, already meets all UEFA requirements and has been chosen to host the final for the second time after the 2019 final between Liverpool and Tottenham, won by the Reds.
