The Ottawa Senators are trying to give their star player Shane Pinto a contract extension, as the 22-year-old does not have one yet.
However, there are some obstacles in the way, most notably the asked price, reports say.
Pinto had an excellent debut season in 2022-23, notching 20 goals and collecting 35 points in 82 appearances.
Rumors have emerged that the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers are interested in the center, but the Senators denied all of that information, stating that the player is committed to the club.
Coming off his entry-level contract, Pinto lacks arbitration rights and is ineligible to receive an offer sheet from a rival club. According to reports he could sign a three-year deal with an average annual value of $2.5 million.
However, with the limited cost cap of Ottawa, circulating at just over $925,000 for the upcoming season it will be difficult to keep the youngster on their roster.
