The defensive midfielder has spent nearly two decades at the club, coming up from its youth system from 2005 onwards. He made his first team debut in 2008 under manager Pep Guardiola.
Busquets has enjoyed an elusive career with the Catalans winning every possible trophy there is to win. He has made 718 appearances, trailing only Xavi and record-holder Lionel Messi. In his 15-year spell at the senior team he has bagged 31 trophies in total, including 3 Champions Leagues, 8 La Ligas and 7 Copa del Reys.
Busquets is regarded as one of the best holding midfielders of his generation as he was instrumental in building the backbone of Barcelona’s success over the years.
“It has been an unforgettable journey.” He said in a video statement.
“Since I was a child coming to the matches or watching them on TV, I always dreamed of playing with this shirt and at this stadium, and reality has exceeded all my dreams. I wouldn’t have believed you if you had told me when I arrived as a youth player that I would play 15 seasons at the best club in the world, the club of my life.”
It is still unknown where the veteran midfielder will play next season.
