Sergio Perez expressed his disappointment with his performance at the British Grand Prix, where Red Bull team-mate Max Verstappen claimed his sixth consecutive victory to secure a 99-point lead in the Formula One championship.
“Nothing worked,” the Mexican told reporters after finishing sixth at Silverstone.
“I had a great start, but then I got pushed by Esteban Ocon of Alpin on the first lap and I lost positions instead of winning, so it just made the race more difficult. We gave it our all and did what we could, but obviously it wasn’t enough.” Perez also said.
The Mexican remains Verstappen’s closest challenger and despite the double world champion’s dominance, he managed to increase the distance between himself and Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso, who now trails by 19 points.
“I have full support from the team, mentally I am very strong and I know I will overcome these problems and turn my season around. The pace is there and I can still get back to where I need to be,” Perez said.
