The former world number 1 and 2-time Grand Slam winner Simona Halep faces a 2nd doping indictment for an anomaly in her athlete biological passport.
The allegation that is reported today “is separate and in addition to” her 1st charge against Halep last season as she was suspended after failing a drug test at the US Open.
The Romanian was number 1 in the rankings in 2017. Simona won her 2nd Grand Slam – Wimbledon, in 2019, where she defeated 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams. Halep won her 1st Grand Slam – the French Open in 2018.
Halep shares on social media that she is not guilty, and she is waiting for the time when she will be able to defend herself at the end of the month.
In a strong statement, Simona Halep accuses the International Tennis Intergrity Agency of ‘harassment’ and ‘trying to prove my guilt’.
Says that she has ‘clearly established’ she was the victim of contamination, and that her hearing is set for end of May. https://t.co/2RU9GAH5SK
