The Italian looked back into great shape after suffering hip injury in the past month

Italian world number two Jannik Sinner showed a strong recovery from recent injury issues by defeating American Christopher Eubanks 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of the French Open on Monday.

Sinner, who withdrew from the Madrid Open and missed the Rome Masters due to a hip injury, appeared back in top form at Roland Garros. He dominated the match, breaking Eubanks twice in the opening set to secure a 4-1 lead. Although Eubanks managed to break back, Sinner closed out the set with another break. The Italian then required just one break in each of the next two sets to seal his victory and advance to the second round.

Eubanks fought valiantly, creating two break points while Sinner was serving for the match. However, Sinner, playing under the roof on Court Suzanne Lenglen, maintained his composure and secured the win.

With this victory, Sinner remains on track to potentially become the world number one for the first time if he continues his strong performance throughout the tournament. His next opponent will be French wildcard Richard Gasquet, as Sinner aims to avoid an early exit similar to last year’s second-round departure.
